One day workshop for managers, who:
- Want to learn about Lean Six Sigma,
- Are responsible for Lean Six Sigma implementation,
- Act as Project Sponsors,
- Manage a Lean Six Sigma initiative.
"Six Sigma is arguably the most important business and industry initiative that has involved statistical thinking and methods."
Mikel Harry and Richard Schroeder:
Six Sigma: The BREAKTHROUGH Management Strategy
Revolutionizing the World's Top Corporations
„It would be a mistake to think that Six Sigma is about quality in the traditional sense. Six Sigma is about helping the organization make more money. Unlike mindless cost-cutting programs which reduce value as well as quality, Six Sigma identifies and eliminates costs which provide no value to customers.“
Thomas Pyzdek
What is Six Sigma?
In 1986, Bill Smith, a senior engineer and scientist at Motorola, introduced the concept of Six Sigma to standardize the way defects are counted. One year later Motorola set a goal to achieve „Six Sigma Quality“ in all key processes. This was the beginning of an efficient methodology of process improvement, based on team work, statistical thinking and a simplified format of project management. Today, a quarter of a century later, Six Sigma is more up to date than ever. The economic crisis has hit severely everybody who thought, that new results can be achieved by repeating old methods.
What is Lean?
Lean Manufacturing Focuses on eliminating waste and is based on the philosophy of getting all levels of an organization involved. It was developed by Toyota in the late 1950’s. TPS - Toyota Production System is an icon of lean manufacturing. Lean tools, such as Kanban, SMED, Andon, U shaped production cells, one piece flow, TPM, standard work etc. are utilized by most manufacturing companies in the Czech Republic and some became used in the service sector. A company wide Lean transformation of all corporate processes would still be rare.
Why together?
Six Sigma helps improve processes and products in situations, where a deep insight is essential. Such insight may be gained through measurement and analysis. Lean, on the other hand, offers a set of ready to use tools. Six Sigma shows, how to set goals for an improvement project, how to initiate it and steer safely to a sustainable improvement. Lean is more about logistics; Six Sigma is more about technology. Both approaches complement each other perfectly.
Workshop program:
- What is Lean Six Sigma
- The Lean Six Sigma improvement model
- Selecting the right projects
- Basic Lean Sigma tools
- The DMAIC and DFSS methodology
- Improvement project case studies
- Supporting Lean Sigma in your organistation
- How to foster and manage change
